Did you know that fire accidents can happen anywhere even in hotels that meet international standards? But don’t worry. At Maybis Hotel, the safety of our guests and staff always comes first.
On the morning of 9 December 2024, we conducted our Annual Fire Safety Training and Emergency Evacuation Drill 2024 for all departments. The training aims to ensure that every team member is fully prepared to respond effectively in case of an emergency.
Firefighting Training and Fire Evacuation Drills are essential activities designed to enhance safety in workplaces, buildings, and communities. The key reasons for conducting these activities include:
1. Raising Safety Awareness
Helps employees or residents understand fire hazards and how to reduce the risk of incidents.
Encourages awareness of behaviors that may lead to fire outbreaks, such as improper use of electrical appliances.
2. Preparing for Emergency Situations
Ensures everyone knows the correct actions to take during an emergency, such as using evacuation routes and operating fire extinguishers.
Reduces panic and increases confidence in handling unexpected situations.
3. Minimizing Loss of Life and Property
Teaches basic firefighting techniques, such as using fire extinguishers or fire blankets, to control small fires in the initial stage.
Fire evacuation drills help ensure that evacuation is systematic and efficient, reducing the risk of injury or fatalities.
4. Complying with Laws and Safety Standards
Many countries require organizations to conduct firefighting training and fire drills.
In Thailand, for example, the Occupational Safety Act requires workplaces to conduct fire drills at least once a year.
5. Enhancing Organizational Trust and Reputation
Demonstrates the organization’s commitment to the safety of employees and stakeholders.
Builds confidence in the safety and reliability of the premises.
6. Developing Teamwork Skills During Emergencies
Fire drills and firefighting practice encourage employees to work together effectively in crisis situations.
Promotes unity and readiness to support one another during emergencies.
In addition, the officers provided hands-on training, allowing all employees to practice using fire safety equipment such as various types of fire extinguishers and fire hoses, as well as participate in a fire evacuation drill to ensure safe evacuation from the building.
A knowledge and understanding assessment was also conducted to ensure that all employees are confident and able to apply what they learned in real emergency situations.
Summary
Conducting fire safety training and evacuation drills is a worthwhile investment in workplace safety. It helps reduce the risk of fire incidents, strengthens confidence in handling emergencies, and demonstrates the organization’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of everyone on-site.
“Safety is not the responsibility of just one person it is a shared responsibility of everyone in the organization.”
