Loy Krathong Festival
Loy Krathong Festival is a traditional ceremony celebrated on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month the 15th day of the waxing moon, which marks the period when the moon is at its brightest and rivers are typically at their fullest. During the festival, people place flowers, incense sticks, candles, or symbolic offerings onto small floating creations such as krathongs, boats, rafts, or lotus-shaped floats and release them into rivers or other bodies of water. The act of floating a krathong carries different purposes and beliefs, depending on local traditions and personal faith. In 2024, Loy Krathong Day falls on 15 November 2024.
Moreover, the Loy Krathong tradition is not exclusive to Thailand. Similar ceremonies can also be found in China, India, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, each featuring its own variations in rituals, cultural practices, and underlying beliefs.
